At Plastic Products, Inc., our breadth of vespel machining knowledge is unrivaled in the industry. The product highlighted here is a spilt seal ring for a customer in the aerospace industry located in Tempe, Arizona. Previously, the customer had been manufacturing this assembly out of aluminum, but wished to switch to a polymer material to reduce overall weight, without reducing the quality of the part. Vespel SP-22 polyimide material was chosen for its excellent thermal and impact resistant qualities along with its dimensional stability over a range of temperatures.

Following the customer's specifications and requirements and then using precision CNC equipment, including a Mori Seiki lathe and Matsuura mill, the spilt seal ring was manufactured to tolerances as tight as ±0.0005". A total of 3,500 guide rings were manufactured for this project, with a turnaround time of 30 days.
